Unity in the Community is a free public event created to unite Portlanders in healing, reflection, and celebration. In a time marked by generational inequities and ongoing gun violence, this gathering offers space for connection, culture, and collective strength.
We will hold a special ceremony for families impacted by senseless violence and unsolved murders, a powerful moment to say their names, raise awareness, and call for accountability in the pursuit of justice. This year, we uplift the lives of Leonard James (LJ) Irving Jr., Debbie Kay Johnson, Asia R. Bell James, and Tyz' Juan James— four beloved community members whose stories reflect the urgent need for unity, remembrance, and healing.
Featuring blues legend John Primer, the event will also include soul-stirring music, wellness resources, culturally rooted vendors, and community-led moments of reflection. Hosted by Love Is Stronger GV, we invite all to join us in honoring the past. Bring a picture or some kind of keepsake to participate in our healing activities and come help build a safer, more connected Portland.
